Short of Sugar
Short of sugar have been an issue in Malaysia for the past few months and it is still yet to be settle by the authority. Sugar is a necessity to the people, and the Malaysian government had placed a price ceiling on it. The reason for it is to protect the consumer from price discrimination by traders.
When price ceiling in place, sugar price in Malaysia is so much cheaper compared to other neighbor country. And when this happens, traders will try to maximize their profit by purchasing large quantity of sugar in Malaysia and export it other countries illegally.
Then the chain reaction occurs, Malaysian short of sugar, people will look for substitutes, and price of sugar in black market will be “gold”. So what can be done? Take raw sugar instead of white sugar, which is more healthier.
